Carpenters Estate, London, UK

The Carpenters Estate is a mixed community of housing, business space, parks and open spaces, a school and Building Crafts College. Constructed in 1968-72 the neighbourhood comprises of 710 dwellings across a 28acre site. The dwellings are made up of three multi-storey towers and low-rise 2-3 storey housing/apartments.

Populo (London Borough of Newham’s development company) appointed Tibbalds/Campbell Reith in a Joint Venture to create a new masterplan vision to restore the estate, which puts ‘residents at the heart of everything we do’. Metropolitan Workshop and Proctor & Matthews Architects were appointed as joint Lead Masterplanners to develop a hybrid masterplan planning application.
