Festival of Place 2024
Associate Director Jennifer Sale and Senior Design Manager Monica Win attended the Festival of Place. It was our first time attending the one-day conference held at BOXPARK Wembley.
Attending on behalf of Plan A’s Masterplanning Sector, we gained invaluable insights from a series of talks, conferences and workshops hosted by a range of planning, urban and building industry specialists. This helped us gain a wider perspective of the current issues facing urban areas and mixed-use developments in the UK, as well as its social impact. From sustainability to climate resilience, to affordability and inclusivity, we found the topics particularly notable as the event coincided with the day of the UK’s General Election.
It was great to hear from Vestre Tibbalds Muse and Waugh Thistleton Architects on how they implement sustainability into their business focus, decision-making and management. We also obtained some insights into 3 Manchester-based projects: Glade of Light by BCA Landscape, Media City and Quayside by Hemingway Design London and Kampus, Manchester by Native Residential. After lunch, we got some fresh air on a Masterplanning and Placemaking Walking Tour with Quintain Limited where we learned about their work in the Wembley Park development.
The event was also a fantastic networking opportunity where we met several industry professionals including Architects, Landscape Designers, Placemaking and Urban Design Consultants.
