AI in Practice Summit: Unlocking AI’s Potential in Architecture

On Thursday, 8th May, Design Manager Olivia Stobs-Stobart attended the AI in Practice Summit, organised by RIBA, to hear the latest developments within the industry and gain insight into how practices are implementing AI systems at scale. The day covered a wide range of discussions – from sophisticated image generation to potential legal implications, and real-time coding applications.

Like every sector, the relationship between AI and Architecture is dynamic and constantly evolving with new capabilities and models emerging at a rapid pace – continually adjusting, and hopefully supporting both our day-to-day tasks, and long-term goals.

Understanding the implications of AI, implementing it responsibly, and anticipating its trajectory has become a discipline in itself.

Events like the AI Summit provide crucial breathing space to reflect on the following perspectives:

  • The acceleration of architectural technology over the past decade, its benefits to our workflow, and what the future may hold.
  • The imperative to establish clear priorities that align AI capabilities with our core values

We should ask ourselves how we want to use AI alongside our established tools and how we can harness it to safeguard our industry while enhancing not only our creativity but also how we streamline, manage, and deliver projects.

At Plan A, we approach AI integration carefully and deliberately, evaluating any new technologies against our core principles and ensuring that any adoption of AI adds meaningful value to our service rather than compromising it. As we continue our AI journey, the insights gained from the Summit will help us refine our knowledge, understand the opportunities available, and continue to connect with other like-minded industry professionals.
